Which folders make a case easier to find?
A simple structure can separate prescription, received scans, CAD files, production files and photos. The exact names should follow the habits your team already understands.
Why keep received files unchanged?
The original received files remain useful when a practice calls, a rescan arrives or a question is raised about a previous version. A new scan should not silently overwrite the first one.
How does automation fit into filing?
It applies the naming and destination rules selected by the laboratory, while leaving the team in charge of versions, exceptions and production decisions.
| Step | Manual or remote approach | Laboratory workstation approach |
|---|---|---|
| 00_prescription | Prescription, PDF and order information | Reference for the received request |
| 01_scans | Received STL, PLY or other accessible files | Original received elements |
| 02_cad | Design work and intermediate files | CAD workflow |
| 03_production | Files for manufacture or printing | Production preparation |
According to your laboratory
Small laboratory
Start with one workstation, one source and a simple destination folder. The goal is to make the first reception step predictable, not to change every production habit.
Growing laboratory
Agree on naming, destination folders and how incomplete cases are treated. Automation serves those rules; it does not replace them.
Several sites
Use a designated reception workstation. The team can access the folders through the laboratory network according to its own infrastructure and permissions.
